Learn how to make Air Fryer Teriyaki Salmon - a healthy, protein-packed meal that comes together SO easily and quickly in the air fryer!

Salmon is one of those foods that I absolutely could not stand as a kid – and I swore, up and down, that I would never in a million years touch it never mind put it in my mouth.

Oh how time changes things 😆

Now, 25-30 years later, I find myself in LOVE with salmon. It is a close rival to my favorite food (a good, thick steak!) and it is often times a splurge for me to buy and to enjoy.

While I have made salmon in my Instant Pot as well as on the grill, one of my favorite ways to enjoy salmon is cooked up in the air fryer.  I just finished a whole freezer-full of Wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon that I picked up in bulk – and it was such a relief to clean out that freezer. I will be the first to admit — I ate it all myself.

Shocker – I know 🥳😮

Air Fryer Teriyaki Salmon

This air fryer teriyaki salmon is so easy to put together and cooks up relatively quickly in the air fryer. The air fryer is indeed the vehicle behind many delicious foods – such as:

  • Air Fryer Teriyaki Cauliflower Wings
  • Air Fryer Eggplant Pizza (with Oven Option)
  • Air Fryer Parmesan Truffle Fries
  • Air Fryer S’Mores
  • Even Air Fryer Accordion Potatoes (my favorite!)

Air Fryer Teriyaki Salmon

This salmon starts with a teriyaki sauce that comes together with soy sauce, water, garlic, ginger, honey, brown sugar and cornstarch.  This sauce will marinate your salmon anywhere from 15-minutes to one-hour.

Then, get ready to toss that salmon in the air fryer!  In just 15 short minutes, you’ll have the most healthy, protein-packed meal that’s perfect for a busy night.

Tips for making the best Air Fryer Teriyaki Salmon:

  • Substitute low-sodium soy sauce or even coconut aminos for the regular soy sauce
  • Salmon that is pre-packacked from Costco is a great option because they are single serving pieces. However, you can use a fillet of salmon and cut into 3-4 oz strips, as well.
  • A resealable bag is the best way to marinate salmon in the shortest time possible. I love using the slider bags from Hefty.
  • You can use dark or light sugar – but dark will rev up the flavor just a little bit more!

Ingredients

  • 4 pieces of salmon
  • 1/2 C soy sauce or, substitute coconut aminos
  • 1/2 C water
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 pc ginger (approx 1") grated
  • 2 Tbsp honey
  • 2 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp cornstarch

Garnish

  • 1 tsp sesame seeds
  • 1 scallion thinly sliced

Instructions

Prepare the Teriyaki Sauce:

  • In a small saucepan, combine the soy sauce, ¾ of the water, minced garlic, grated ginger, honey, and brown sugar.
  • Place the saucepan over medium heat and whisk the mixture until the sugar has dissolved and starts to thicken.
  • In a separate bowl, mix the cornstarch with the remaining cold water to create a slurry. Add the cornstarch slurry to the saucepan and continue to whisk the mixture until it thickens to a glossy consistency. This should take about 2-3 minutes.
  • Remove the teriyaki sauce from heat and set it aside to cool.

Marinate the Salmon:

  • Place the salmon fillets in a shallow dish or a resealable plastic bag.
  • Pour the teriyaki sauce over the salmon. Make sure the salmon is well coated.
  • Seal the bag or cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes (or up to 1 hour) to allow the salmon to marinate.

Air Fry the Salmon:

  • Remove the marinated salmon from the refrigerator and place it in an air fryer safe dish.
  • Air fry the salmon for about 12 minutes, or until it reaches your desired level of doneness. The salmon should be flaky and cooked through.
  • If you like your salmon with a caramelized glaze, brush the reserved teriyaki sauce over the salmon fillets during the last 2-3 minutes of cooking.
  • Garnish and serve.
