Deliciously refreshing peach simple syrup made with just three simple ingredients, and perfect for iced tea, ice cream, waffles, pancakes and more!

Peach Simple Syrup

If you haven’t tried peach simple syrup, you are missing out on one of the most delicious summer  treats.

Spring and early summer is peach season here in Arizona. Every year we overload the kitchen counter with 15-20 pounds of peaches that we use for goodies galore.

  • Peach ice cream
  • Delicious peach pie…
  • Peach cobbler

Oh the joy and beauty of ripe, juicy peaches! If you aren’t near an orchard to pick your own, grab a few pounds at your local marked to make this simple syrup. A few pounds of peaches, water and sugar is all it takes to create a delicious treat that everyone in your family will enjoy.

Fresh picked peaches

Peach Simple Syrup

Making your own simple syrup is one of the best kept secrets.  Use it liberally on ice cream, waffles, pancakes, in your iced tea, or cocktails. Or combine it with club soda for a delicious summer treat.

Start by combining basic water and sugar at a 1:1 ratio.

With that ratio in mind, you can add simple flavorings — ginger, strawberries, rhubarb, peaches or even jalapeños.  Believe it or not, jalapeño simple syrup is pretty amazing stuff (hot, but amazing!)

Peach Simple Syrup

Simple syrup can be made a few different ways. Basic simple syrup is made with equal parts of sugar and water. A rich simple syrup is  extra sweet though with a 2:1 sugar to water ratio, giving room for you to use even less (and making it last longer!)

Once done simmering, cool and pour into jars. Then refrigerate to use right away. Or opt to gift simple syrup to family and friends – these slim glass bottles are perfect for bottling and gifting.

Ingredients

  • 2 C sugar
  • 2 C water
  • 2 C peaches pit removed, diced

Instructions

  • Bring sugar and water to a boil.
  • Add peaches.  Allow to simmer for 15-20 minutes.
  • Remove from heat. Cool, strain out peaches & discard.
  • Place sugar water back on the stove, simmer for an additional 15-20 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to cool.
  • Bottle and enjoy  in your favorite recipes.

Notes

  • For a rich syrup, increase the ratio of sugar to water (2:1) instead of 1:1.
  • Simple syrup can be canned. To can, increase the sugar to water ratio 2:1. Properly sterilize jar, lids and rings in the water bath canner. Water bath for 20 minutes to ensure an effective seal.
  • Don't toss the peaches  once strained! They can be used for compost, or Vermicompost.

How long can the syrup be stored.

Elinor, it will keep for up to 3-4 weeks in the refrigerator (if it lasts that long!) You can also can the remainder – though I would check Ball canning guide. We use it rather quickly, it’s delicious when used in peach iced tea.

How long does this last when canned? When making the syrup I assume you can use fresh, frozen or previously canned peaches?

When properly canned it should last up to one year if kept in a cool pantry. You can use fresh, or frozen peaches. I haven’t tried using canned peaches.. I would assume you can.

There is still a lot of flavor in the cooked peaches, even after straining. I make peach muffins or baked oatmeal, and use up my softened peaches.

Is there a reason you need to do 2:1 ratio for canning? I’m able to can peaches in just water so I was hoping to can this using the 1:1 ratio so it’s less sugar
