How to Freshen your Vacuum

Essential Oils

How to Freshen your Vacuum

Here’s an easy and foolproof way to freshen up a room – without spending much money at all.

Chances are .. if you have kids, you vacuum, and if you are anything like us you vacuum multiple times a day.

How to Freshen your Vacuum

We invested in a Riccar Vacuum 3 years ago for MANY reasons (and I LOVE this vacuum!) and the BEST way to freshen the room is to use Purification Essential Oil in the filter.

Now… I’m not talking about putting oil in the vacuum bag. I’m talking about putting it on the foam filter that lays just inside the vacuum, right under the area that the bag sits. And it works amazingly well.

How to Freshen your Vacuum

We are using Purification Essential Oil – which is one of the Oils that comes in the Young Living Starter Kit. It’s one I can’t go without – and although we are way past the starter kit, I have to have this oil at home…  Actually, I usually have 2.

It’s great for smells and for freshening rooms. We also use it in our dishwasher, laundry and to make our own air spray here at home when topped off with water.

About Purification:

Purification is a blend of Citronella, Lavender, Rose, Melaleuca, Myrtle and Lemongrass Essential Oil. It cleanses the air, neutralizes odors and can be used for many different things both body and home.

Freshen your Vacuum

Obviously not all vacuums are the same – so check your vac to see if you are able to do this too. If you can, then follow the steps below.

  • Take out the foam filter that’s under the bag (it’s settled in between a plastic holder).
  • Give it a good wash, and ring out all the excess water – dry as thoroughly as you can, and then slip it back in the plastic holder in the vacuum.
  • Grab your Purification Essential Oil and add 8-10 drops of it on the pad.
  • Ensure the vacuum bag is settled in the vacuum, then place the outer cover back on the vacuum.

To use: Vacuum as you would normally and you will experience the most amazing smell – a clean and fresh home!

Go a step further and you can also try this Carpet Powder, too (with Essential Oils!)
