Guess what? Smells are a big deal.
Smells are linked to your cerebral cortex of your brain, which controls your bodily functions and also your limbic system. Your limbic system is the part of your brain that holds your emotions, memories and feelings.
This is the reason that when you smell freshly baked chocolate chip cookies it takes you back to fond memories of your childhood.
Smells can motivate and inspire you – they can also transform your mood to make you buy things.
One of the best examples is going to Starbucks, and standing in line – that smell of coffee and freshly baked pastries doesn’t help keep more money in your wallet, in fact, it makes you want to buy more…
Many stores and establishments use this as a marketing tactic, and incorporate synthetic fragrances to help persuade you to purchase.
While I can understand why they would do that, I’d rather not subject myself to the synthetic items. I’m happy to help my family by diffusing and smelling essential oils though, and so as the purpose behind these diffuser bracelets.
How do Essential Oils affect the Mind?
Your sense of smell is much more accurate than any of your other senses. Your ability to smell comes from sensory cells, called Olfactory Sensory Neurons, found in a small patch of tissue very high in your nose. Those cells connect to your brain.
Each of those sensory neurons has one odor receptor – and molecules released by substances around us stimulate these receptors. Once your neurons detect your molecules, they send messages to your limbic lobe of your brain.
The limbic lobe is a group of brain structures that is below the cortex of the brain – it includes the amygdala and the hippocampus. Your limbic lobe (system of brain structures) is directly connected to the parts of your brain that control many aspects of your body – hormone levels, stress, memory, breathing, heart rate, and more.
The only way to stimulate the emotional brain is through your sense of smell – which is one of the reasons why Essential Oils can work so incredibly well.
Feelings of depression, fear, anger, happiness, joy and even anxiety all originate from the limbic lobe of the brain.
What you Need to Make these Bracelets
Having a diffuser bracelet will allow you to diffuser your oils wherever you go – whether it be school, church, to the par, and more. Using a diffuser bracelet is easy – and using a Lava Diffuser Bracelet is no exception. Add your favorite scents that will keep you energized, motivated and upbeat all, day, long.
These simple Lava Diffuser Bracelets are SO easy to make, you’ll want to make one for each of your kids, your friends and even maybe family members.
You’ll need:
- Stretchy elastic cord (we used 1 mm)
- plastic beads that are non-pourous (pick up here on Amazon or get some at your local craft store)
- porous beads like Lava Beads
- Essential Oils to add to your bracelet
Just a note about the beads: Hobby Lobby does not carry Lava Beads so don’t even bother checking your store. Michaels has a generous selection of both porous (Lava) and porous beads – and they usually have a weekly coupon that you can bring (or, sometimes they will accept a Hobby Lobby coupon).
To make:
Making these is SO easy – pull out your beads and lay them on the table.
- Tie off a piece of cord so it fits your wrist with a little extra space. Fold over the end of the bracelet and then loop.
- Start stringing the beads on the bracelet – you can opt to put the Lava Beads together in the middle or, stagger them throughout the other beads.
- Tie off the end by weaving the cord through the loop.
- To use, add a drop or two to the Lava Beads (which are porous).
White elastic cord is easier to knot, whereas this clear type is more difficult – you may want to knot, then superglue over the knot to make sure it doesn’t come undone.
Porous beads are essential to use on this bracelet – you only need a few, and when you apply your oil, you will only need a drop or two. The scent should last for a few hours if not the entire day.
