This homemade eggnog is rich, delicious, creamy, and easy to make - not to mention it tastes so much better than store-bought!

The onset of fall usually signals all things pumpkin..

And if you are in my area, then stores start stocking shelves with Halloween and Christmas themed decor as early as the first week of August. It is already happening here… we haven’t even hit Labor Day and woosh….

I saw Christmas trees and ornaments in Walmart just a few days ago. 🫣😳 Yikes – right? I mean, I’m all for the holidays but … the first week of August? It almost seems like it creeps up earlier and earlier every single year.

Some people love the onset of fall because it means everything PUMPKIN. While I do love pumpkin… I love eggnog even more. Except… with one caveat:  I love homemade eggnog …

I have, occasionally, purchased the eggnog in the store – but I’ll be honest: once you make homemade eggnog, it’s really, really hard to go back to the other stuff.

Like I said, I’m just being honest. 😉❤️

Grab just a few simple ingredients and get yourself in the kitchen – once you make homemade eggnog, you’ll never (and I mean NEVER!) go back to the store eggnog again! Mark my words… homemade is where it’s at. 🙌

This homemade eggnog is made with 4 basic ingredients:

  • egg yolks

Ingredients

  • 6 egg yolks
  • 2 C milk
  • 1 C whipping cream
  • 1/2 C granulated sugar
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions

  • In a medium-sized bowl, combine the egg yolks and granulated sugar. Whisk them together until the mixture thickens and becomes smooth.
  • In a medium saucepan, combine the milk, whipping cream, cinnamon sticks, and salt. Mix everything well.
  • Place the saucepan over medium-high heat and warm it up. Just before it starts to boil, turn off the heat. Remove the saucepan from the stove and let it cool for 5 minutes.
  • Slowly add the hot milk to the whipped eggs, tablespoon by tablespoon, allowing the eggs to gradually adjust to the temperature. Whisk vigorously while adding the milk.
  • Once the milk and eggs are thoroughly combined and whisked, pour everything back into the saucepan. Heat the mixture over medium heat until it reaches a temperature of 160 degrees Fahrenheit. Then, remove the saucepan from the heat and let it cool completely.
  • Using a strainer, strain the eggnog into a bottle, ensuring a smooth texture, and refrigerate it to keep it chilled.
