This DIY Homemade Scrub Cleaner comes together quickly and easily with simple ingredients you will find right in your pantry!
Making your own homemade scrub cleaner is one of the easiest DIY’s you’ll probably ever do. In a time when it seems like our bathroom loves to throw parties each week and invite mildew and dirt over to hang out, you’ll love this simple solution.
I have a love hate relationship with scrubbing my bath tub. It’s probably because I feel like it’s a never ending battle!
Boys can be some pretty dirty creatures, and when they prefer to play in the back & front yard without shoes, it’s even worse.
Our boys are known for tossing everything in the tub – trucks, blocks, toy snakes (lets not talk about that!) and even tractors that have been in the dirt in the backyard. The tub is their simple solution for bathing the dirt off of ALL of their favorite things.
While that’s ok to a certain extent, it makes my job so much harder!
Getting the tub clean each week and keeping it shiny requires constant attention.
Why not just head to the store?
While we could just run to the store to pick up Soft Scrub or Bleach, I try hard to keep toxic commercial products away from our skin. Our skin is our largest organ, and commercial cleaners like those mentioned are not only toxic, they should be avoided completely.
Thankfully some of the best cleaning products can come right from the kitchen pantry and work just as well if not better. Hello baking soda – not only is it inexpensive, it gets the job done.
Added plus? They aren’t dangerous to your health, and won’t affect your hormones. Win!
Have you checked out the EWG to see the ratings on Soft Scrub? Pretty scary stuff – on a scale of A to F, some varieties are ranked right there at an F…
The Risk of Conventional Cleaners
Looking more in detail, there are concerns for irritation, allergies, organ effects, kidney and urinary effects and more. Why risk using these when other options are just as convenient and better for your health?
This recipe for homemade scrub cleaner is non-toxic and takes just a few minutes to mix it up! Even better, it will save you a trip to the store. You can make it in a large batch by doubling or tripling the recipe or, make fresh each time.
I like to double the recipe and keep it in the kitchen cabinet so I can have it when I need it. I’ll usually whip up a new batch every other week.
Nothing has worked better for us than this homemade scrub cleaner. It has taken off the nasty, ugly ring in the toilet and cleaned up the tub unbelievably well.
Thieves Cleaner is a plant-based cleaner that is safe around kids and pets. You don’t have to worry about your kids sneaking in the cabinet and ingesting harmful ingredients. As an added plus, it smells incredibly amazing!
You will have a hard time using it just once – you’ll feel the urge to clean your entire house because this cleaner smells like Christmas.
If you don’t have Thieves Cleaner or can’t pick up, baking soda and lemon juice work incredibly well on their own, too.
