It’s inevitable – and happens more than we might want. We spend too much time in the sun, and we wake up the next morning to find that we look (and feel like…) a lobster. A very red, sore lobster.
Perhaps it happens when you spend a day at the waterpark – or, 4 hours tubing down the river (which, by the way, is one of the BEST ways to spend an afternoon in the heat of the summer!)
If you are like me, it happens quite easily – I’m very very pale, and I honestly can’t be outside for long at all before I start to feel the effects of the hot, Arizona sun.
My kids, however, are darker like their dad – and while they do get pretty dark in the sun, they still feel the effects of the sun if we don’t take proper precautions.
One of the best things you can do if you find yourself suffering the next day, is to take a cool bath or shower – you’ll want to get that heat out as much as you can before applying anything to your skin. Cold water will draw that heat out and make the Aloe Vera work well for you.
Apple Cider Vinegar is also great for treating affected skin – soak a washcloth in a mixture of cool water and apple cider vinegar and place on your body to draw out the heat and repair the skin.
Why Use Aloe Vera?
Aloe Vera is powerful and soothing, and when combined with Peppermint Essential Oil (also soothing) and Lavender (great for helping to support healthy skin), they work together to repair the terrible redness and pain that comes with so much sun.)
Of course, you don’t have to use just Lavender & Peppermint ~ Tea Tree, Helichrysum and Frankincense are ALSO great to aid in skin support. You can use one or all 3 of those together with Lavender and Peppermint for greater support.
I love using Lavender and Peppermint simply
Cooling After Sun Spray
- 14-16 oz Distilled Water
- 1/4 C. Aloe Vera Gel
- 15 drops Peppermint Essential Oil (we use Young Living)
- 15 drops Lavender Essential Oil (we use Young Living)
To make: Mix all of the ingredients together in a glass spray bottle (we use these HERE).
Use after a cool shower or bath by spraying liberally on the affected areas. Refrigerate for an even greater cooling experience (refrigeration also helps the product keep a little longer, too!)
