Shea Butter Lipstick with Essential Oils

Essential Oils

Tons of the conventional lipsticks out on the market right now contain toxic, heavy metals - including lead. With just a few simple ingredients you can whip up your own Shea Butter Lipstick and it works fabulous!

Tons of the conventional lipsticks out on the market right now contain toxic, heavy metals – including lead. Hard to believe, but it’s so true.

Even worse, most of those commercial lipsticks are dyed with crushed beetles and  who wants that? Definitely not me.

Considering that lipstick goes on our mouth and we unintentionally lick our lips during the day, that ends up in our mouth .. the sheer thought of that just makes me want to gag a little.. how about you?

Tons of the conventional lipsticks out on the market right now contain toxic, heavy metals - including lead. With just a few simple ingredients you can whip up your own Shea Butter Lipstick and it works fabulous!

Why not make your own – right? We make everything else (from body wash to lip balm… conditioner & more) – so this is just another way to ditch the toxins in your personal care products in favor of DIY.

Whip up your own Shea Butter Lipstick for just pennies!

Shea Butter Lipstick

Recipe makes 2 lip balm tubes or tins:

  • 1 tsp shea butter
  • 1 tsp sweet almond or jojoba oil
  • 3/4 tsp beeswax pellets
  • 1 tsp red or pink mica
  • 8-10 drops Peppermint Essential Oil
  • Chapstick containers

To make:  In a Pyrex measuring cup, combine the shea butter, wax and jojoba oil. Microwave on high stirring every 15 minutes, until melted and completely smooth. Once melted, stir in the mica and peppermint essential oil until well combined. Immediately pour into Lip Balm tubes.

Let sit for 30 minutes (minimum) until cooled and firm. Apply to your lips as needed.

We opted for the burgundy mica and used 1 tsp and thought it was pretty dark – but if you want an even darker hue, bump up the mica to 1 Tbsp.

Why Shea Butter?

Shea is rich in essential fatty acids, phytosterols, vitamins D and E, provitamin A and allantoin – which protects your skin from the elements (harsh rays, pollution, weather and dehydration).

Shea butter is also wonderful for healthy skin support.

Wondering what oils we recommend?  We love Young Living Essential Oils.  In fact, we got started with the premium starter kit, pictured above – picking up the kit allows you to get wholesale cost on essential oils {for life!}  It’s a great investment in your wellness.
