It’s been years since we have brought home hand soap for the bathrooms, and the kitchen – and while many people scoop up any kind of a deal on antibacterial hand soap, we have been making our own for quite a while.
But why avoid commercial hand soap?
Many reasons – of which we detailed back on this post in February.
Believe it or not, making your own {everything} is usually cheaper – and easier. The same ingredients we use to fill up our foaming pumps for washing our hands in the bathroom is the same set of items we use for making our own body wash – and bubble bath. So they really do serve multiple purposes.
Young Living does sell Thieves Hand Soap in the pump – and while that stuff is nothing short of amazing, I haven’t yet tried it (I know.. I know, I should but I haven’t yet!) I would prefer to stock up on oils versus hand soap bottles, especially when I can throw it together in just a matter of minutes – literally
The soap recipe below is the same standard recipe we use for our body wash – you can add additional oils to it if you wish, but in most cases we just use it as we have it listed below. It is effective and we love it – hopefully you will love it just as much as we do!
Make your Own Thieves Hand Soap
- 1/4 C. Distilled Water
- 1/4 C. Aloe Vera Gel (we use this)
- 1/4 C. Castile Soap (we use this)
- 1/2 Cap of Thieves Cleaner
To make: mix all ingredients in a foaming pump (we picked up these on Amazon since we needed several) – once mixed, turn/flip several times to disperse ingredients.
Our Aloe Vera calls for refrigeration once opened – so store that bottle in the fridge until you next need it. Since you only need 1/4 Cup, it really does last quite a long time.
Want to add additional Essential Oils? If you do, try to stay away from Citrus Oils (they are photosensitive) – and be cautious about using plastic with Essential Oils. The best thing about using Thieves Cleaner is that it’s safe to use PETE Plastic.
Do you use Essential Oils? Read more about WHY we chose Young Living on our last post.

What is the brand of the aloe vera gel you use? The link is not working. It goes to Amazon and says “page cannot be found.”
Thanks.
