Commercial Hand Sanitizer is something you will want to stay away from – for many reasons we mentioned back HERE.
If you can’t live without hand sanitizer though, you can still make your own without the harmful ingredients… Tea Tree Essential Oil is great for hand sanitizer and works well in this recipe below. I would not recommend using Citrus Oils (Lemon, Lime) — not only are they photosensitive, they can react with plastic on a greater scale than some of the other essential oils.
Since it’s very very diluted, you should be fine using plastic – just make sure it’s PET or PETE Plastic (which is regarded to be safe) – provided you are diluting your essential oils. OR you can opt for these travel containers HERE.
I haven’t found any travel size glass containers to use as carry ons in a purse, but if you have kids, sometimes carrying glass containers isn’t always the best idea.
Homemade Hand Sanitizer
This is an easy recipe that takes just minutes – the tea tree oil will kill the bad bacteria and the aloe AND vitamin E are both very nourishing to the skin.
- 3 Tbsp Aloe Vera Gel
- 1 Tbsp Distilled Water
- 3-4 drops Tea Tree Essential Oil
- 1 tsp Vitamin E (we recommend THIS)
- Travel size containers (you can find them HERE)
To make: Combine all the ingredients together, and transfer into the squeeze tube. Or, use a glass pump to make a larger volume. Use a travel tube (we recommend these HERE).
What Oils to Use?
While there are many out there, there aren’t many that I can vouch for – you can see what I recommend HERE. I personally lean towards a company that grows their own plants & trees on farms that are theirs (NOT outsourced)… has both in- house AND third party testing, and doesn’t use any synthetic chemicals or pesticides on their plants.
I also love a company who has opened up their farms ANY time – that’s transparency at it’s best.
