Pull out your hand blender because a few minutes is all it takes to whip together this lush tropical coconut lime vanilla body butter – keep some for yourself and gift some to friends or family so they can experience the amazing world of DIY.
I have DIY’d many many things this last few years – beautiful Lavender and Stress Away bath bombs, facial moisturizer, toner, even DIY shave oil…. but this rich body butter tops the list. We combined kokum butter (which is incredible for skin!) with coconut oil, and essential oils to create a wonderfully creamy butter that will keep your skin moisturized and hydrated all year long.

This body butter is incredibly easy to make – unlike most other body butters that use a ratio of 2:1 (Shea, Coconut or Mango Butter to Coconut Oil), Kokum Butter is a harder butter – so the ratio of Kokum Butter to Coconut Oil will be 1:1.
Ingredients
- 1/2 C. Kokum Butter (measured then melted)
- 1/2 C. Coconut Oil (measured then melted)
- 25 drops Stress Away Essential Oil
- optiona: 1 Tbsp arrowroot powder
Instructions
- Combine the kokum butter and coconut oil in a glass measuring cup and put in the microwave.
- Melt on 30 sec bursts until the mixture is completely liquid.
- Remove from the microwave, and allow to sit 1-2 minutes. Then, add essential oil, and pour into a glass bowl (or, stainless steel mixer bowl if you are using your stand mixer).
- Put the dish or mixer bowl in the fridge until the mixer is cooled - it should be thick. If you leave in the fridge too long then it will harden (you don't want that). I let mine sit in the fridge for 25-30 minutes.
- After 25-30 minutes, the mixture should be completely cooled and thickened. Pull out and whip on high with your hand or stand mixer until it's fluffy and creamy.
- Optional: add the arrowroot powder to cut the grease - not required, but if desired. We did not find this necessary.
- Apply as needed to skin - keep in mind that citrus oils are photosensitive - avoid applying to areas that will be exposed to the sun (12 - 24 hours). Apply to areas that will not be exposed to UV rays.
- To store: keep covered and store at room temperature.

If I use shea butter instead… Do I melt it first?
Barb, yes – you would melt it first (microwave or double broiler). Then let it sit for 30 minutes or so to cool before you add any other oils and whip it into body butter. I hope that helps!
