3 Reasons to Apply Essential Oils to your Feet

Essential Oils

Have you ever wondered why the feet are such a great place to apply essential oils? Here's why.

Essential oils have many uses for our body – and they can be very beneficial in so many different ways.

Getting started, however, can be overwhelming to say the last.

Essential oils can be used topically, aromatically and dietary.  When using them topically, you may wonder what the best route is to application – where do you apply them? How often? How much? What is the best place to apply essential oils to a child?

The bottom of the feet, wrist and behind the ears are 3 of the best places to apply essential oils to your body.    You should aim to apply essential oils to the feet over any other part – for many reasons.

Less Sensitive

The bottoms of the feet are the least sensitive part of the body – making them the perfect place to try out essential oils. When you are applying essential oils to the bottom of the feet, they are absorbed quickly because the feet has larger pores.

Since the feet are the least sensitive, they are the best place for those hot oils like Oregano, Peppermint, Thieves and Clove.

Easy Absorption

The feet have the largest pores of the entire body – this allows the essential oils to be absorbed more quickly and to reach the bloodstream faster. There are only two places on your body that have sebaceous glands – these glands cover the body and help waterproof the skin.

The feet and hands are the only two places on the body without sebaceous glands – because of that, items applied to those areas are absorbed more quickly.

Reflexology Points

The feet are full of reflexology points – you can find reflexology charts online that show pictures of the feet with corresponding internal organis or body parts. Reflexology allows for each reflex point of the feet to act as a sort of mirror to correspond to a particular organ in the body.

There are various reflexology points – by stimulating these points, you can reach 7,000 nerves and 26 bonus – when practiced correctly, reflexology can re-balance the energy flow in your body and releases new flows of energy. Reflexology can help with stress, immune deficiency, IBS, pregnancy symptoms + more.

When using essential oils on the feet, three to six drops is usually enough – it’s easier to use a carrier oil to allow for greater application.  The feet are a wonderful place to apply oils to children – you should always dilute with carrier oil when applying to the feet of a child of any age.

Lastly, if you are looking at applying several oils in one area, layering is a better option over mixing oils. By layering, you keep the chemical constituents of each oil in tact.
