My Favorite Essential Oils for the Kitchen

Essential Oils

My Favorite Essential Oils for the Kitchen

I have a confession to make: I am head over heels in love with Essential Oils.

From bathroom to laundry room, to kitchen… buried in my purse, and even in my vehicle.  Half full bottles… sitting there waiting for their next use. Caps, scattered in the corner, an overflowing glass vase of empty bottles waiting to be cleaned out for a second life.

Take for example my kitchen – where I spend the most time.

As I washed my dishes this morning, I grabbed the lemon essential oil – I put a few drops in my Instant Pot and started scrubbing.  I loaded the dishwasher with silverware and cups and added Purification to my dish compartment with my dish powder, then pushed the button so it could run while I mopped.

As I cleared out the sinks, I grabbed the mop and ran the sink so I could close out the kitchen for the night by mopping the floor –  I shuffled through bottes on the back of the sink so I could find my Pine or Lemongrass Essential Oil to mop my floors.

Mopping makes you work up a thirst (something fierce!), so I grabbed an empty glass, crushed ice and water – added a few drops of Lemon Vitality. And reached across the counter for my Lavender – my finger still a bit sore from the muffin pan I had sitting on the counter that I forgot was freshly HOT out of the oven.

Whoops!

Essential Oils for the KitchenEssential Oils are of major importance in my kitchen – and while we have a few hundred bottles scattered all over the house, in the kitchen it comes down to just a few key players. What oils do you have in your kitchen?

Here are the 7 Essential Oils you will find on the back of my sink:

Pine:

Pine is a relaxing and grounding essential oil that is great for supporting the respiratory system. I love using it to make my own Pine Cleaner to mop my floors (which is why I keep this in the kitchen!)  Pine is also one of the most adulterated oils — Young Living uses first distillation only and they own their own fields, not to mention they guarantee that they don’t use any pesticides or herbicides.

Lavender:

Ever have an incident that you hurt your hand removing stuff from the oven? Or maybe the stove? You need to have Lavender handy – it works wonderful for those “oops!” moments!

Lemon:

Lemon is great for cleaning – not just counters but also your pans and dishes!  If you have a hard to scrub pan, add a few drops of Lemon essential oil to work out the yuckies and keep your counters clean and smelling fresh with a few drops of Lemon essential oil wiped with a clean dish towel.

Purification:

Purification is one of the best essential oils for smells – use it as an air freshener, and add 5-6 drops to your dishwasher compartment for your dish soap. We actually make our own dish powder with Purification and we also like to keep the kitchen smelling fresh by diffusing this one. You can also make your own air spray – 10 drops of Purification in a glass spray bottle with 6-8 oz of water. Ditch those toxic air fresheners (Glade, Renuzit & more!)

Lemon Vitality:

If you drink as much water or bake as much as we do, Lemon Vitality is great to have in the kitchen -we add to our glass of water, we cook pancakes with Lemon Vitality and we also use it to bake breads, too. I could keep listing all the ways we use it – from Yogurt to Dip, it has a permanent place on the counter in our kitchen.

Lemongrass:

Lemongrass supports healthy connective tissues – it’s also great for exercise goals, and can help awaken the mind with it’s scent. We love adding 5 drops to our dishwasher compartment along with the dish powder – sometimes we will add 5-6 drops in our spray bottle of Thieves Cleaner for a little boost in cleaning power.

Black Pepper Vitality:

Black Pepper Vitality oil can replace ground black pepper… and if you cook as much as we do, it’ll become a permanent part of your kitchen – right on the counter when you make dinner every night. One of our favorite recipes to use Black Pepper in is these Black Pepper & Nutmeg Popovers.
