DIY Foaming Shave Cream

Essential Oils

DIY Foaming Shave Cream

In our house, we make almost all of our own toiletry items – from baby wash & shampoo to body wash, body powder, anti-wrinkle eye roller and much more.

At one point in our lives, we had no desire to make our own – but with each child we had, we became more cognizant of the harmful ingredients in most of the personal care products you purchase in store.

Considering the toxic ingredients in shave gel and shave cream, it’s just another reason to make your own at home. And it’s relatively easy to do, and inexpensive, too. Plus, I’ll be honest and say there is something satisfying about making your own – it’s fun… once you start, you will never want to go back to buying in store.

This recipe follows our DIY Body Wash Recipe – except we added some Coconut Oil (or, if you wish – Almond Oil) to it along with Vitamin E.  It lasts for about a month, but there are two of us that use it (myself and my husband). My husband is fortunate that he doesn’t get razor bumps from shaving – and he only shaves 2 (maybe 3?) times a week.

I tend to go through this faster in the summer (obviously…) than in the winter, but in the winter using Almond Oil instead of coconut oil can be very moisturizing.

DIY Foaming Shave Cream

  • 1/4 C. Distilled Water
  • 1/4 C. Castile Soap (we use THIS)
  • 1/4 C. Aloe Vera (we found ours on Amazon)
  • 1 Tbsp of Coconut or Almond Oil
  • 1 full dropper of Vitamin E (acts as a preservative)
  • 5 -6 drops Lavender Essential Oil (or your oil of choice)

To make, add everything to a foaming pump (ours is 12 oz) – if you don’t have one you can pick up a set of 3 on Amazon. You’ll use them for lots of things so I would get a few.

Once you combine the ingredients, flip the bottle back and forth to mix and use on your next shave.

You can incorporate any essential oils you wish – we love using Lavender since it’s great for supporting the skin. I would not suggest any citrus oils since they can be photosensitive.

What Oils to Use?

While there are many out there, there aren’t many that I can vouch for – you can see what I recommend HERE. I personally lean towards a company that grows their own plants & trees on farms that are theirs (NOT outsourced)… has both in-  house AND third party testing, and doesn’t use any synthetic chemicals or pesticides on their plants.

I also love a company who has opened up their farms ANY time – that’s transparency at it’s best.
