Every year, at some point in time, most people experience congestion – mucous in your nose swells due to inflammation of your sinus cavities.
As a result, you feel congestion – and sometimes that congestion leads to a common cold.
While you can definitely head into the pharmacy or to the doc to fight that congestion, sometimes there are alternatives that you can rely on that will allow you greater ease in relieving your issues without the harmful side effects and damage to your gut flora.
If you use or incorporate Essential Oils in your wellness, there are 8 that are very helpful to have on hand to provide relief support for greater respiratory function and immune support.
Tea Tree Essential Oil
Tea Tree is wonderful when combined with a carrier oil and applied to the neck and chest several times throughout the day.
Eucalyptus Essential Oil
You can diffuse Eucalyptus (2-4 drops in the diffuser) or, combine with a carrier and apply to the chest and neck to provide support. Use caution when applying Eucalyptus on children ages 2 and younger.
Peppermint Vitality Essential Oil
Peppermint Vitality Essential Oil is an amazing addition to tea or hot coffee for support of your sinuses. 1 drop is all you need if adding to your beverage. Or, combine with a carrier and apply to the chest or bottom of your feet to support healthy sinuses.
Lavender Essential Oil
Lavender is the swiss army knife of essential oils – it’s very calming and soothing.. apply to your feet and chest to help support a restful sleep. OR, combine a few drops with baking soda or epsom salt for a bath soak.
Oregano Essential Oil
One of the most effective essential oils for respiratory support, you can add oregano to your diffuser (4-5 drops at night) to support healthy respiratory function. Or you can combine with a carrier oil and apply to your chest and neck to support your respiratory function.
Lemon Vitality Essential Oil
Lemon Vitality is essential to have on hand – you can add 1-2 drops to your cup of tea, along with a spoon of raw honey to support your body’s natural defenses.
Be cautious with Lemon Essential Oil when adding with a carrier on your body – it’s phototoxic so you will want to avoid being outside if you have used this oil.
Rosemary Essential Oil
Rosemary works well when diffused (4-5 drops in the diffuser), or combined with lemon, and eucalytpus to provide support when applied to the chest or neck with a carrier oil.
Always try to avoid using Rosemary during pregnancy.
Thyme Essential Oil
Thyme is one of the most powerful essential oils for respiratory support – and although works well diffused, it is just as effective if you combine with a carrier to your chest or neck.

- Topically
- Internally (ensure you are using therapeutic grade Essential Oils, not the low cost oils at the health store!)
- Aromatically
