Ingredients

  • 1/2 C butter cubed
  • 1/2 C buttermilk
  • 1 C granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda

Instructions

  • Heat butter, buttermilk and sugar in a small skillet or pot on the stove over low/medium heat until the mixture comes to a boil.
  • Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in vanilla extract and baking soda until combined.
  • Immediately serve over pancakes, waffles, french toast or rice pudding.

Notes

  • Make sure you use a large enough saucepan as the mixture will boil up once you add the vanilla extract and baking soda.
  • Serve immediately (warm); refrigerate leftover syrup and heat prior to serving (as the butter will stiffen up the mixture).
