It happens to all of us.
You are sleeping comfortably … and you get a light tap on the shoulder.
“Mommy. Mommy I don’t feel good.”
You lay there… hoping that it’s a dream, and you can continue on your sleep – after all, you are having the most comforting rest and you really need all the sleep you can get.
But it happens again.
And this time, you realize that it’s one of your children standing at your bedside – and while you want to help him or her, you aren’t convinced that you really need to get up. You tap your spouse (husband) hoping that he will emerge from his deep snooze to cheerfully help… but tapping does nothing. 😉
Then, your child clutches their stomach and says “I feel like I’m going to throw up..”
You bolt out of bed, and run your child to the bathroom toilet to prevent the unimaginable from happening – throw up.
What do you do??
There is nothing worse than the feeling that you get when your kids aren’t well. Sometimes it happens with us – – and when it does, within hours everyone in the house is sitting on the sofa with blankets, chips/saltines, ginger ale and pails.
If you are married, then you and your spouse and kids travel from bathroom to sofa, sofa to bathroom, to help expel what is “in” that stomach of yours – sometimes scouring the pantry for things like gatorade or Powerade to help you get your energy back.
The stomach flu is horrible, y’all… I despise it.
When it happens, you are looking for anything you can do to feel better. So what do you do?
Do you drink more water? Is there something you can eat? Perhaps something will help you kick it to the curb quickly?
How to Stop the Flu in its Tracks
When you get sick, you want it to be OVER – and you want it to be over quickly. After all, you have a job to do, kids to raise and household to manage. Believe it or not, there are several things you can do to get rid of the junk quickly and get on with your life.
#1 – Sleep
Sleep is critical – when you are over tired, your immune system function drops drastically – and if you don’t get more Zzz’s, the chance of recovering from the flu or cold will take considerably longer. Therefore, try to get as much rest as you can.
#2 – Apple Cider Vinegar
Pick up Bragg’s Apple Cider Vinegar “with the mother” at your local supermarket or organic foods store. You can find it at Target, Walmart, or even on Amazon.
The mother is made up of the yeasts and fermentation byproduct that is produced when the apple cider vinegar starts to ferment. Before you use ACV, always give it a good shake to evenly distribute the mother, but ensure that you buy this variety and not your cheap Apple Cider Vinegar.

The taste is not amazing… gosh, it really is yucky – but use a teaspoon or two in water or juice and if needed, you can try grape juice. Follow up every few hours.
If you have kids, getting them to drink ACV can be a challenge – I would recommend adding it to some diluted juice (apple or grape, even cranberry) and giving to them like that. Start with a teaspoon and if your children are older, then lean towards 2 or 3 teaspoons.

#3 – Essential Oils
Essential Oils can be a wonderful way to support your immune system. Some of the best oils that you can use are:
- Thieves Essential Oil – diluted and applied to the feet bottom, also diffused
- Thieves Vitality Essential Oil – taken in a veggie capsule as part of your wellness
- Oregano Essential Oil – diluted and applied to the feet bottom, also diffused
- Oregano Vitality Essential Oil – taken in a veggie capsule
- Lemon Vitality Essential Oil – added to a warm mug of tea sweetened with honey
- RC Essential Oil – diffuse for respiratory support or applied topically to spine, bottom of feet and chest
- Peppermint Vitality Essential Oil – taken in a veggie capsule to support healthy digestion
Those are just some of the essential oils that can help you – remember that not all essential oils are created equal and there is very little government regulations in terms of quality and purity.
Try to stay with a company that has transparency – we use Young Living because I love their Seed to Seal promise, their transparency as a company and the opportunity that I have to be involved and visit their farms regularly.
Will you Get over the Flu?
Will you get over the flu with these 3 tips? Who knows – you may… but if anything, they are suggestions. With a family of 7, we’ve had our own fair share of experiences and are just sharing what works for us.
It’s amazing what your body can do when given the chance naturally — give it time to recover, sleep and a simple glass of Apple Cider Vinegar water a few times a day will work wonders if you give them a chance.
