If you live in Phoenix, at one point or another you have felt the change in seasons – and although we don’t get the same seasons everyone else might get … we do have a shift in weather patterns that make for lots of sneezing, itchy eyes and runny noses.
For some people it gets worse every year. Thankfully that seasonal shift can be treated with things other than antibiotics and over the counter medicines.
Seasonal Relief medications might seem harmless to most people because they are sold over the counter (OTC) – but that is NOT always the case. Those medications may stop your bouts with grasses, pollen and seasonal hay fever, but they can aggravate a heart condition, and be dangerous when mixed with other medications. Not to mention they can be unsafe if you are expecting as well.
Besides what you eat and drinking lots of water, there are MANY natural remedies for seasonal relief. It’s incredibly important to understand that OTC medicines might alleviate the issue but they also mask the real problem as well.
It’s always great to turn your body away from the toxic pharmaceuticals (which DO include OTC medicines) and provide it with alternatives that will help you deal with that relief naturally.
If you can use something natural, then why not consider?
Essential Oils are a great way to help your body adjust to the changes in seasons – through a combination of Lemon, Lavender and Peppermint.
You can use them topically, diffuse into the air and also take them as part of a dietary supplement, too.
Lemon Essential Oil: a GREAT immune booster and is effective at providing circulatory support.
Lavender Essential Oil: has a calming effect and helps to support the immune and respiratory system.
Peppermint Essential Oil: is great for respiratory support, in addition to digestive support. It helps open up the airways.
You can use these oils any of 3 ways:
Topically
Use equal parts of Lemon, Lavender and Peppermint in a topical form – you can use a glass roller bottle with a stainless steel roller, and apply as needed to the body (neck works great or upper chest!) In a 10ml Bottle, add 7 drops of each Essential Oil and top with a carrier oil and roll on your temples, neck or behind the ears as needed
Aromatically
If you have a diffuser, you can diffuse all 3 oils together during the day, for 3-4 hours at a time. Some diffusers can run up to 8 hours – but your run time may vary by diffuser. Combine 4-5 drops of each oil along with the appropriate level of water in the diffuser – if you work in your office you will want to diffuse there, or if you find it more helpful for the living room then do it there too/instead.
Internally
You can take the trio of Lemon Vitality Essential Oil, Lavender Vitality Essential Oil and Peppermint Vitality Essential Oil three times a day in an empty veggie capsule.
In each capsule, use 2 drops of each oil (for a total of 3 capsules a day). If it’s more helpful, you can make your capsules ahead and keep in a freezer bag in the freezer so you have a week’s worth at a time.
If you are a label reader like I am, these capsules HERE are free of yeast, wheat, gluten, corn, soy milk, sugar, and animal products (which is important for some!) Some capsules will have gelatin and animal products..
What Essential Oils are Best?
Many Essential Oils you find in store are merely fragrance oils – and should never be applied to your body OR ingested. These oils are created as synthetic substances – the smell is a mere imitation, but the therapeutic properties are not present.
While there are many companies and brands out there, there aren’t many that I can vouch for – we recommend Young Living because not only do they have their own fields, they have a Seed to Seal promise that ensures that they are providing oils that are genuine, free of synthetics and of unmatched purity. From the time the seeds are planted to the time they seal their bottles, they are undoubtedly providing a wonderful final product without compromise.
